In recent years, many new technology giants have settled in the financial district of san francisco, north of palo alto. Some silicon valley people who drift north face the three- to four-hour commute every day to take the "Canadian railroad" from san jose, the southernmost point of silicon valley ( caltrain) commuter train to work in san francisco. It's impossible to drive to work in san francisco unless you're going to drive yourself crazy. American railways are privately owned, and the same track may be operated by different railway companies. The company that operates the commuter train from san francisco to san jose is canada rail. The most common complaint I hear from ghost mannequin effect commuters on the silicon valley canadian railway is that trains are delayed, sometimes by hours. And the reason for the delay is sometimes the most unique sadness in the world: another suicide. The roughly seven-kilometer stretch of canada rail through palo alto is the infamous suicide corridor. Shockingly, many of the suicides here are teenagers, children from top palo alto school districts. Even more shocking is that more than half of the students are asian. According to the famous "Atlantic" monthly report , the suicide rate of children in the palo alto school district is four to five times the national average. Adolescent suicide appears to have a cascading effect. Between may and august 2009, a total of five students from the same top high school stood quietly on the level crossing and waited. When the train approached at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour, they suddenly rushed in front of the train and ended everything for themselves. It was the most unfortunate year. Then, in 2014 and 2015, seven other students replicated this model.
