How to Add Custom Songs to Guitar Hero III with Song List Editor

If you are a fan of Guitar Hero III and want to play your own songs on the game, you might be interested in using Song List Editor. This is a handy program that allows you to add songs from your PC or from Frets On Fire, an open source Guitar Hero clone. In this article, we will show you how to download and use Song List Editor to add custom songs to Guitar Hero III.

What You Need

Before you start, make sure you have the following items:

  • A copy of Guitar Hero III for the PC

  • Song List Editor, which you can download from here[^1^]

  • A chart file or MIDI file for the song you want to add. You can find thousands of chart files for songs at ScoreHero.com

  • Chart2Mid2Chart.zip by Leff, which you can download from here[^1^]

  • An MP3 or OGG file of the song you want to add

Note: Adding custom songs will corrupt your save game file, so make sure you back it up before proceeding.

How to Use Song List Editor

Once you have downloaded and extracted Song List Editor, run songlist_editor.exe. You will see a command window in the background and a main window like this:

Next, go to File -> Open and select your Guitar Hero III installation folder. You will see a list of songs that are already in the game.

Adding a Custom Song

To add your own song to Guitar Hero III, follow these steps:

  • Click on "Add New Song" at the bottom of the main window.

  • Enter a name for your song and click OK.

  • Click on "Browse" next to "Song MP3/OGG" and select the MP3 or OGG file of your song.

  • Click on "Browse" next to "Song Chart/MIDI" and select the chart file or MIDI file of your song. If you have a chart file, you will need to convert it to a MIDI file using Chart2Mid2Chart.zip. To do this, extract Chart2Mid2Chart.zip to a folder and drag and drop your chart file onto Chart2Mid.exe. A MIDI file will be created in the same folder as your chart file.

  • Click on "Save" at the bottom of the main window.

Your custom song is now added to Guitar Hero III. You can edit its details, such as artist name, album name, year, genre, etc. by clicking on "Edit Song Info". You can also change its position in the setlist by dragging and dropping it in the main window.
