With the more serious elements missing, the end result is a film that is stripped down but still retains a decent level of risk-taking. As a result, the film still has some decent moments, and, as the title suggests, the tension is thick throughout. It might not work for everyone, but, for The Hitman's Bodyguard to work, it needs to work for everyone. It rarely does that. Instead, it misses out on the final run because it is weighed down by too much schtick and, as a result, never develops as a story.
The final action sequence in the film is truly spectacular as Kincaid and his bodyguard take out the bad guys. As the action goes on, we see that Kincaid is a true master - even on an action set - and he proves that he is worthy of standing toe-to-toe with the world's best players. When Kincaid returns home, the film ends with him going about his life as a father and a husband, while wondering whether or not his wife will ever trust him again. The film's ending is, frankly, a bit on the humorous side - but it's an enjoyable way to end the story. The Hitman's Bodyguard isn't perfect, but it does have its charms. If you're in the mood for a good comedy with a game action sequence, it'll fit the bill.
Lionsgate & The Weinstein Company really go to town on the 4K home viewing version of The Hitman's Bodyguard. The normal 1080p presentation of the film is average at best. The movie is presented in the older-looking Dolby Vision color palette, which is as close to the original theatrical experience as you're going to get on this release. We also got a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 mix on this release to fully saturate your room with sound. Along with the Atmos mix, the 7.1 Master is the single best presentation on the 4K disc. Gunfire and explosions are really awesome and the various channels really come alive. The only reason this isn't a recommendation is that so many of the jokes are so predictable. You can already tell Jackson is going to be cracking wise before he opens his mouth. If that's what you're looking for in a comedy, I'd recommend checking out Midnight Run instead. 3d9ccd7d82
